Comprehensive Eye Exams

Optometrist conduction comprehensive eye exam

No matter how old you are, having regular eye exams is absolutely essential to the continued good health of your eyes. A comprehensive eye exam includes several types of evaluations that help an Optometrist determine your prescription. It also helps them to assess the overall health of your eyes. Regular eye exams are extremely important to every person, not just those who have, or are at risk of having, bad eyes. By having your eyes examined on a consistent basis, an Optometrist is able to detect various forms of eye diseases before the patient experiences any of the symptoms. This allows our eye doctors to preventively treat the condition before it becomes untreatable.

When you first visit our Optometrist office in Brampton, our friendly and knowledgeable staff will help you through the first preliminary tests that are needed to start your patient profile. Tests like these are required in order to form a baseline with which our doctors begin your examination. As soon as the baseline test is complete, we will introduce you to one of our friendly Optometrists where a thorough examination is performed, your prescription and visual acuity are measured, and the internal and external structures of your eyes are closely assessed.

Once your comprehensive eye exam is completed, the Optometrist will have screened your eyes for different types of conditions including glaucoma, diabetes and macular degeneration. The doctor will discuss their findings with you to ensure that you understand the health of your eyes and any treatments necessary. This is also when we always encourage our patients to ask and address any eye concerns that you may have with your optometrist.

Pediatric Eye Exams

Here at BCC Optometry, a person’s first comprehensive eye exam can be done at any age. We highly recommend that children should have their first eye exam prior to their first year of school and henceforth, every year after. This is very important for your child as their bodies, and especially their eyes, are still growing and changing and there can be conditions that can cause the improper development of the eye to occur. Because this period of growth is so important, any child age 19 or under is covered by OHIP for their comprehensive eye exam annually. At BCC Optometry we strive to ensure that your child has a fun and rewarding experience in our office. While our Doctors assess the health of your child’s eye, they will be looking for such conditions as “Lazy Eye” (amblyopia) and “Eye Turn” (strabismus) which are commonly seen in younger children.

Senior Examinations

As our body ages, so do our eyes and because of this, eye changes can be visually alarming for many seniors. Therefore, a comprehensive eye exam every year is very important and is covered by OHIP for any patient 65 or older. Some conditions that are commonly seen with seniors like dry eyes, cataracts and age related macular degeneration are all commonly seen without symptoms in seniors. It is important that you see an eye doctor in Brampton in order to get a thorough examination and, if needed a referral to a specialist if further treatment is necessary.
